Family Counselling
Strengthening families. Restoring connections.
Family relationships can become complicated.
Misunderstandings accumulate.
Old wounds remain unresolved.
Communication breaks down.
Family members become distant.
Sometimes the people who are meant to be closest to us become the people we struggle to speak to.
Family counselling at Baṣirah Care seeks to create a structured environment where family members can begin understanding one another, repairing relationships and rebuilding meaningful family ties.

Ṣilat al-Raḥim — maintaining and strengthening family ties.
The Prophet ﷺ strongly encouraged maintaining family relationships, even when those relationships become difficult.
The objective of family counselling is therefore not simply to resolve one disagreement.
It is to help families rediscover healthier ways of relating to one another and to strengthen the bonds Allah has placed between them.
The Journey
What to expect, step by step
Step One
Reach Out
Contact Baṣirah Care through the enquiry form or email.
Tell us briefly about the family circumstances and what has prompted you to seek support.
Step Two
Arrange Your Appointment
We'll work with the family to find a suitable time.
Because family counselling involves multiple people, scheduling may require additional coordination.
Step Three
Complete the Family Questionnaire
Family counselling does not use a single individual-style intake form.
Instead, before the first session, we ask for a family questionnaire to gather basic information such as contact details, household structure, family members involved, relevant background information, the primary reasons for seeking counselling, and the family's hopes for the process.
The questionnaire is intended to give us basic context before the first conversation.
It does not attempt to diagnose the family or determine who is at fault.
Step Four
Receive Your Welcome Pack
Once the appointment is confirmed, the family will receive a Baṣirah Care Welcome Pack containing information about the session, what to expect, and how to prepare.
Step Five
The First Session
The first session focuses on understanding the family.
We listen.
We seek to understand the relationships, the history, the difficulties and the hopes of those involved.
The objective is not to immediately identify a culprit.
It is to understand the family system and the patterns that have developed within it.
The Purpose of Family Counselling
The central aim is to help families strengthen their ties and practise the Islamic principle of ṣilat al-raḥim. Counselling may explore:
The goal is not that every family member agrees about everything.
The goal is that disagreement does not destroy family bonds.
Sessions
Arranging a session
Family counselling sessions are longer than standard individual sessions because of the number of people and relationships involved.
Sessions take place online or in person in Middelburg, South Africa, with appointments primarily available during evenings, weekends and holiday periods.
You don't need to know exactly what your family needs.
We can begin by talking. No judgement, thoughtful perspective, professional care and Islamic grounding.
