Individual Counselling

Sometimes what you need most is a safe place to think out loud.

Life can become noisy.

Responsibilities increase.

Relationships become complicated.

Loss changes us.

Anxiety steals our peace.

Sometimes we simply need someone who will listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help us make sense of what we're carrying.

At Baṣirah Care, individual counselling provides a confidential, compassionate space where psychological insight and Islamic guidance come together to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

What Makes Baṣirah Care Different?

Rather than simply helping you cope, our aim is to help you understand.

A significant part of healing comes from seeing ourselves, our emotions, and our relationships differently.

Counselling at Baṣirah Care combines evidence-based psychology, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with an orthodox Islamic framework that seeks not only emotional wellbeing but also spiritual growth.

Our goal is not simply that you feel better.
Our goal is that you begin living better.

Your Journey

What to expect, step by step

  1. Step One

    Reach Out

Contact Baṣirah Care through the enquiry form or by email.

Tell us a little about yourself and what has brought you here.

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

  2. Step Two

    Arrange Your Appointment

We'll respond personally and work with you to find a suitable date and time.

Appointments are primarily available during evenings, weekends and holiday periods.

Once a time has been mutually agreed upon, your appointment will be confirmed.

  3. Step Three

    Receive Your Welcome Pack

Once your appointment has been confirmed, you'll receive a Baṣirah Care Welcome Pack containing further information regarding your session and what you can expect.

The aim is to remove unnecessary uncertainty.

You should know what you're walking into before you arrive.

  4. Step Four

    Complete Your Intake Form

You'll receive an intake form before your first session.

For online sessions, submit the completed form via email.

For in-person sessions, you may bring the completed form with you.

The intake form helps provide some initial context, but it does not replace the conversation.

  5. Step Five

    Your First Session

The first session is about getting to know one another.

I want to hear your story in your own words.

Your experiences. Your concerns. Your hopes.

Your understanding of what has brought you here.

We may not even reach the main issues or challenges during the first session.

    And that's okay.

Before meaningful counselling can take place, there needs to be comfort and trust between client and counsellor.

  6. Step Six

    Finding the Right Fit

If, after the first session, you feel that Baṣirah Care isn't the right fit for you, we can discuss that openly and without judgement.

Where appropriate, we may recommend or refer you to another practitioner who may be better suited to your needs.

The priority is not retaining a client.

The priority is helping the person find the right support.

How We Work Together

Rather than offering endless open-ended therapy, we generally structure counselling around an eight-session framework.

Some people achieve their goals sooner.

Others benefit from additional sessions.

The framework simply gives us direction while remaining flexible enough to meet your individual needs.

Each session builds upon the last. Together we seek to understand patterns, develop healthier responses, strengthen emotional resilience, and cultivate meaningful long-term change.

Before Crisis. After Crisis.

One of the greatest misconceptions about counselling is that it is only for people in crisis.

We believe counselling is just as valuable before life begins to unravel.

Sometimes the most beneficial conversations happen long before relationships break down, anxiety becomes overwhelming, or burnout takes hold.

Likewise, after a difficult season has passed, counselling can help us understand what happened, process what we've experienced, and move forward with greater wisdom.

Healing is not only about surviving difficult moments. It is also about preparing well for those yet to come.

Our Philosophy

We don't make decisions for you.

We don't tell you how to live your life.

Instead, we help you slow down enough to see clearly.

Together we explore the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviours.

Many of our struggles become repetitive because our thoughts produce certain emotions, those emotions influence our behaviour, and our behaviour reinforces the original thoughts.

A central part of our work is gently interrupting these unhealthy cycles.

Together we identify negative patterns and intentionally replace them with healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and responding.

As those internal patterns begin to change, so too do our relationships, our resilience, and our overall wellbeing.

Throughout this journey, we seek not only emotional healing but also a stronger relationship with Allah.

Faith is not treated as an afterthought. It is woven naturally into the counselling process, offering perspective, purpose, hope, and direction.

Sessions

Arranging a session

The standard individual counselling session is 50 minutes.

Sessions take place online or in person in Middelburg, South Africa, with appointments primarily available during evenings, weekends and holiday periods.

Healing rarely happens overnight.

It begins with one conversation.

If you're ready to take that first step, I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.
